Mr. J.B. Canterbury came to the US from Ireland as a teenager. He served in the Civil War before moving to La Crosse, where he was a businessman during the 1880's and was very influential in boosting activities on La Crosse's North Side. He was instrumental in establishing the first interstate fair, which is now home to the UWL Veteran's Memorial Field.
